Ontario relaxes liquor laws June 1

Ontario’s changed liquor laws eliminate some barriers for festivals, special events and licensed establishments, relaxing regulations around alcohol service and consumption. For example, restaurant and bar servers can now carry alcoholic beverages on public sidewalks to licensed areas (e.g. patios) and operators can give a complimentary drink to customers celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary. Ontario is also expected to extend liquor hours to 2 a.m. for weddings and charity events; previously, special occasion permits ended service at 1 a.m.
Additionally, the government has committed to increase enforcement and monetary penalties for liquor infractions to ensure greater compliance with the provincial liquor laws.
As a key stakeholder, CRFA actively participated in government consultations leading up to these changes. |
